CHIMNEY REPAIR IN NEW JERSEY

Chimneys are an essential component in a lot of American homes. While you might think you only need one if you have a fireplace, you'd be wrong – a lot of stoves also require chimneys. So, what purpose do they serve? A chimney is required to redirect the hot gasses that appear as a byproduct of burning flammable materials.

Different types of damage to the chimneys can occur. The most notable and visible is a leaning chimney, which can be stabilized by steel helical piers. Extensive damage to a leaning chimney warrants a total replacement.

Another notable issue is a leaking chimney. This may be caused by a lack of a chimney crown, chips, warps and cracks in the masonry leading to the exposure of the outside elements. In addition, damaged flashing surrounding the chimney can lead to a leak.

Not all chimney issues are external – any damage to your fireplace or the damper (the mechanism which controls airflow) can also be fixed by our skilled employees. On top of that, we offer tuckpointing, repointing, and chimney crown installation services.

Getting your chimney fixed on time prevents further complications. A leaning chimney can wreak havoc on the shingles of your roof, leaks can easily lead to water damage. Improperly functioning chimneys are a fire hazard – leading to thousands of dollars in damage down the line – including safety risks.

The repair process depends on the nature and extent of the problem – as we've addressed here, there are different potential problems. This is easily solved – just give us a call at (201) 888-7388 – we'll schedule a free estimate. We will identify the repair and provide you with the most affordable price for the service.

CHIMNEY CLEANING IN NEW JERSEY

Cleaning your chimney is important, not only for hygiene. Keeping a chimney clean prevents the buildup of creosote – a flammable, powdery substance that can easily ignite and presents a fire hazard. Clogged or dirty chimneys can easily lead to smoke leaking out into the interior of your house.

Sweeping and cleaning chimneys is hard work – it should be done at least twice a year. It is notoriously difficult to clean it yourself. We offer chimney sweeping and cleaning services – simply give us a call, and we'll schedule the work in no time.

CHIMNEY REPOINTING AND TUCKPOINTING IN NEW JERSEY

The terms repointing and tuckpointing refer to processes that fix the mortar which binds the bricks in a chimney. Although they sound similar and are often used as if they mean the same thing, they are not.

Repointing is the process of removing and replacing old, damaged mortar, tuckpointing is the process of doing this with two different shades of mortar – giving the chimney or masonry a new, more appealing look.

Mortar in the chimneys must be maintained – it keeps everything in place, more importantly ensures that the weight of the brickwork is evenly distributed. Not maintaining the mortar in the chimney may cause the risk of a leaning chimney or total chimney collapse.

It is difficult to tell when it's time embark on a chimney restoration journey. The easiest way is by getting a professional opinion – just contact us and schedule a free estimate, we'll see how things are holding up.

CHIMNEY INSTALLATION IN NEW JERSEY

Chimney liners are a layer of metal or ceramic forming a tube, connecting your fireplace and the exit of your chimney. They promote energy efficiency and also protect the brickwork of your chimney from wear and tear.

Chimney caps protect your fireplace from external factors such as wind, rain, snowfall and hail, simultaneously letting steam and creosote escape.

If you don't have either or both, we strongly recommend installing them ASAP. If you need chimney liner installation or chimney cap installation, contact us for a free estimate and speedy service.

CHIMNEY REPLACEMENT IN NEW JERSEY

Chimney rebuilding is partial and usually takes place only above the roof, a chimney replacement is a bit more complex.

When arranging to have your chimney replaced, the old one is completely removed and replaced with a new chimney. This procedure is extensive, time consuming thus more costly in comparison to chimney repairment.

Rebuilding the chimney is the best option if the damage is limited to the upper portion of the chimney – above the roof line. However, if your chimney has run its course, replacing it with a new one is the solution.

If you notice structural damage, a significantly leaning chimney or any leaks in the chimney, it might be wisest to remove it before the damage spreads. If anything mentioned here – chimney replacement, chimney removal, or a chimney rebuild is something that would interest you – just give us a ring at (201) 888-7388.
